1. Tell us about the company you work for. What is its story?
Zymvol was founded in 2017 with the firm belief that any industry can adopt cleaner, more sustainable and more efficient processes through the use of biocatalysts. That is why, at Zymvol, we develop tailor-made enzymes for industrial applications, making green chemistry the preferred choice for R&D teams around the world.
Today, we apply this expertise to the cosmetics and personal care sector, transforming the production of active and functional ingredients into cleaner, more sustainable and more efficient processes.
2. What does your day-to-day role at the company involve?
My day-to-day work at Zymvol focuses on connecting our biotechnology with the cosmetics industry and driving our first steps in this sector. I focus on raising awareness of our first proprietary solutions: a lipase designed to optimise ester production — including emollients and functional ingredients — and our biofermented melanin, a key active ingredient due to its antioxidant and sun-protection properties.
We are currently at a key stage of growth and consolidation, building partnerships with leading industry players. It is also a very motivating stage in my career, as I am able to bring experience from previous sectors and contribute across different areas such as product development and regulatory affairs. Ultimately, I build bridges between enzymes and cosmetics companies that are committed to green chemistry.
3. What is your key differentiating value?
Our expertise in engineering and designing tailor-made enzymes. We apply supercomputing and advanced biotechnology to create highly precise biocatalysts. This enables the cosmetics industry to replace conventional chemical processes with efficient and sustainable biocatalytic alternatives, accelerating the development of high-value active and functional ingredients.
4. What challenges do you think you will face in the coming years?
Our main challenge is to accelerate the adoption of enzymatic biotechnology in a cosmetics industry that has traditionally relied on conventional chemical synthesis.
From a business perspective, we are focused on scaling up and commercialising our first proprietary ingredients, such as melanin and lipases, while demonstrating to the market that green chemistry is the most competitive and sustainable option for developing high-performance active ingredients.
5. What does being part of Beauty Cluster bring to the company, and to you as a professional?
As a company, it provides us with the ideal platform to connect with the cosmetics ecosystem, increase the visibility of our enzymatic solutions and collaborate on R&D and sustainability projects with key industry players.
From a professional perspective, it gives me a privileged meeting point where I can stay up to date with the latest trends, create valuable synergies with other professionals and gain first-hand insight into the real needs of the industry, helping us continue to deliver innovative ingredients.
6. Coming back to you, how did you find your way into the beauty industry?
I entered the industry somewhat by chance, but it has turned out to be a very fortunate crossroads.
My background combines biotechnology and pharmaceutical marketing, with experience across industries such as pharmaceuticals, medical nutrition and consumer goods before moving into personal care. What I love about this role is that it sits at the perfect intersection between beauty and science: today, cosmetics require scientific rigour, biotechnology expertise and ingredients backed by data, and it is very rewarding to help lead that bridge at Zymvol.
7. Speaking of “beauty”, how would you define it?
For me, beauty is the perfect combination of emotion and health. It is that sense of harmony that makes us feel good, while also being a direct reflection of balance and vitality. What I find particularly inspiring about today’s cosmetics industry is the way it uses science to support wellbeing from within and help each person feel comfortable in their own skin.
8. Any hobbies, superpowers or hidden passions you would like to share?
I am passionate about sport and cooking. They help me switch off, stay disciplined and find a healthy balance between personal wellbeing and everyday life.
9. What is the latest book you have read or film you have watched?
Although I have to admit that getting into reading has not always come naturally to me, I have recently rediscovered my interest in it. Lately, I have been hooked on thrillers by Freida McFadden and Joël Dicker, while also enjoying discovering the sensitivity and unique perspective of Japanese authors such as Masashi Matsuie.
10. Business is based on…
Transparency, innovation, adaptability and commitment.
