Barcelona, February 8, 2021. The Beauty Cluster has held the first global virtual innovation event in the cosmetics, perfumery and personal care sector of this 2021, the ‘Beauty Innovation Days’. The event, which has brought together more than 1,300 international professionals in its sixth edition, has been carried out through an all-in-one digital platform allowing attendees to follow the presentations by international experts live, visit the exhibition area and the virtual marketplace , as well as connecting with the rest of the event participants through the B2B networking space.

The ‘Beauty Innovation Days’ are the industry’s benchmark annual meeting that offers a 360º and international vision of innovation throughout the value chain. This edition, in the midst of a Covid-19 pandemic, digitization has not only allowed its celebration, but has also helped to internationalize the event to different geographical areas around the world. Not only have professionals from Europe, the main audience, participated, countries such as Africa, Asia-Pacific, LATAM, the Middle East and North America have also joined.

According to the Beauty Cluster, the organization of the ‘6th Beauty Innovation Days’ has been a challenge and a quick response to adapt to the new reality, always maintaining the same dynamism and with the aim of continuing to interconnect the sector and promote innovation and science across the entire value chain. In this sense, Ivan Borrego, manager of the Beauty Cluster comments: “When in 2020 we decided that this event was going to be virtual, we did so both to ensure its celebration regardless of the evolution of the pandemic and to contribute to the digital evolution of our sector As representatives of the sector in Spain, we could not allow the pandemic to freeze all the innovation ecosystems of our industry. The result has been that we have multiplied by four the attendees compared to the face-to-face version of last year, in addition to achieving a great Some of them are international (> 30%). The ‘Beauty Innovation Days’ has projected the innovation of the Spanish cosmetics and perfume industry internationally. It has contributed to generating business opportunities and connections that will lead to projects. In addition, it has allowed the industry alive, connected and focused on innovation through an event that brings together the best national and international knowledge. I would also like to highlight the importance of having first-hand knowledge of international innovation trends at the event, given that everything is changing so rapidly that companies have to adapt in order to compete. This knowledge is essential for the development of the competitiveness of our industry.

For yet another year, it has opted for a program with high quality content, 54 live lectures, bringing together a total of 60 international speakers. 37 Elevator Pitch in which companies in the sector have presented innovations and new launches in skincare, haircare, technology, delivery systems, cosmetic manufacturing, testing, packaging, sustainability and fragrances. With the same format, 5 startups that are beginning their path in the sector have presented their projects in the second edition of the Investor’s Forum with the aim of seeking partners and/or financing.

Ms. Teresa Riesgo, general secretary of innovation of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain, has led the round table of the opening session, in which she presented the strategy of the Ministry from 2021 to 2027 in innovation. Likewise, there was the presence of Jaume Pey, director of Anefp (Spanish Association of Self-care) and Ivan Borrego, general manager of the Beauty Cluster.

Once again, Mintel has inspired the audience presented the most innovative world launches in skin care, hair care and body care were presented, as well as the presentation by Euromonitor International on the global state of the Beauty and personal care market. On a scientific level, the presentations made by Professor Desmond Tobin, director of the Charles Institute of Dermatollogy at University College Dublin, on the latest research focused on genetics, hair pigmentation and aging processes, and the presentation by Professor Jordi Vitrià, member of the DataScience Group of the University of Barcelona, on the reality of artificial intelligence applied to industry.

As in previous editions, the ‘Packaging Contest’ was held for students of the professional degree in Design at the University of Barcelona, with sustainability as the central axis in this third edition.

We are frankly proud that there has been – as in previous editions – a space for young students who have visualized the future of cosmetic packaging by presenting disruptive and exciting proposals. The Beauty Innovation Days was born to help the sector innovate, give visibility to innovation and share it to generate business opportunities. This year has been fully virtual but we are convinced that we have far exceeded the objectives and expectations that we had set ourselves. “, adds Borrego.
