Technology is increasingly present and indispensable in our lives.

And its impact is undoubtedly positive (for example, in increasing life expectancy), but we cannot forget that it also has the capacity to be negative. Especially when technologies have such exponential life cycles: new ones appear each time, faster and with a more profound impact (it took 50 years for the landline phone to have 50 million users. Instagram, on the other hand, took only 19 months).

One of these technologies is Artificial Intelligence (AI), which, although popularly known, we are unaware of the extent to which it is already part of our lives and the decisions it makes in key aspects of our day-to-day lives.

To maximize the positive impact and minimize the negative consequences of technologies, laws help to define limits and good practices, as in the case of the law on data protection (GDPR), or the future European law on AI.

But it is necessary for companies to take an active role in this issue with a strategy, and a firm and concrete purpose. In this sense, in recent years the so-called ETHICS of technologies has gained more strength.

In this talk we will make a review of these issues: what is understood by ethics in its application in technology, enumeration of the main risks especially with the use of AI, and review of some real cases. We will end with a proposal on how to implement a way of working that ensures ethics and the positive impact of technology.
